Language lessons
My language teaching experience has been acquired in a wide-range of contexts. I try to be a good communicator and am committed to providing students with a dynamic and interesting learning environment in which they can grow and develop.
I teach Business English at learning institutions such as Helsingin Aikuisopisto (since 2011) and have taught at numerous private companies. In individual private lessons, small groups or classes, I can help you and members or your staff develop written and spoken English fluency. The teaching can be in person at your premises or online and can incorporate the use of various learning platforms such as Zoom, Teams or Padlet if desired. I am able to assist high school or university students prepare for their studies as well.
Individual lessons
The individual lesson format has the advantage of being a low-stress context within which students can be fully engaged through direct interaction with the teacher. Conversation practice allows students to increase their speaking, listening and understanding by actively responding to ideas and topics as they occur. Being able to participate in topical conversations about various subjects such as news, sports, music or food in addition to business-related topics can increase your linguistic confidence.
Reading and writing skills can be practiced in this context using teaching material selected to specifically suit the student’s needs.
These sessions work best when scheduled on a weekly basis though it can be beneficial to schedule sessions more often when preparing for a specific occasion such as a presentation or an upcoming event.
Small group lessons (2-5 participants)
Small group lessons are often a good choice for training students to participate in meeting-type situations while still enjoying a good amount of direct interaction with the teacher. Students are able to work collaboratively with colleagues but can still easily ask for assistance whenever they need it.
Medium group lessons (6-14 participants)
Because of the larger number of participants, medium-sized group lessons work better with adult students whose level is intermediate or higher. This format encourages the students to work independently or in small groups (two or three students) with colleagues while the teacher moves between groups. Interacting within larger groups can help the more advanced students increase their confidence and preparedness to express themselves in English when they are called on to do so.
